The husband of Kerry Donoghue, who died in a horse riding accident at the Penrith Horse Trials, has said their family has been left 'broken'. The 42-year-old experienced equestrian from Glasgow suffered a fatal fall during the cross-country event on Saturday, July 18. Emergency medics treated the mother of two at the scene, but she could not be saved.
Husband's tribute
Matthew Donoghue paid tribute online, describing his wife as 'amazing' and stating: 'No words can describe how we are feeling at the moment we are totally broken and Kerry will forever be in our thoughts and hearts.' He added: 'If you love someone tell them you love them kiss them hug them tell them how you feel. Life for us will never be the same again. To everyone who's messaged and for all the support my family and I have received we will be eternally grateful.'
Background and fundraising
Kerry, a former NHS nurse, had spoken on a podcast in May about her fears of injury. A GoFundMe page set up to support her family has raised over £19,000. Friend David Smith wrote: 'One of my best friends lost her life in a tragic horse accident during a show. Kerry was a passionate advanced nurse practitioner and always cared for others throughout her career. I am raising funds to help the family with this unexpected tragedy.'
