Hull City's Gourna-Douath unhurt in car flip near training ground

Hull City midfielder Lucas Gourna-Douath escaped injury after his car flipped onto its side near the club's training ground on Thursday morning, the second similar incident in less than three weeks.

Photographs showed a Mercedes on its side along Millhouse Woods Lane, the narrow road leading to the Cottingham training facility. Hull Live understands the vehicle belongs to Gourna-Douath, who was driving and walked away unharmed, just as teammate Sorba Thomas did after his crash on September 11.

Police confirm no injuries

Humberside Police said in a statement to Hull Live: "Officers and emergency services were called to reports of a single vehicle road traffic collision on Millhouse Woods Lane in Cottingham at around 8.30am this morning (Thursday, 1 October 2026). Thankfully, no one was injured as a result of the collision."

Full details of how the accident unfolded remain unclear at this stage.

Residents' warnings ignored

Millhouse Woods Lane is exceptionally narrow, leaving very little room for vehicles to pass, and warnings have previously been issued about the speed at which some drivers travel along the stretch.

Following Thomas's crash last month, local councillor Phil Redshaw said he had raised concerns with the club. He said: "I wrote to the Hull City club secretary on Sunday asking them to remind players to be careful driving down the road because of the residents' concerns. I wanted them to remind their staff to drive with extra care, because they get new players in every season."

Hull City have been contacted for comment.
