The Duke of Sussex's plans to bring his entire family to the UK have descended into confusion, with Buckingham Palace reportedly unaware of his intentions and a security dispute threatening the visit.
Chaos Over Harry's UK Trip
On Friday, June 26, it was announced that Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, and their children, Prince Archie (7) and Princess Lilibet (5), would cross the Atlantic together for the first time in four years. However, by Saturday, the plans were in disarray, with rumors that Harry might travel alone.
The chaos stems from a decision by the Royal and VIP Executive Committee (RAVEC), which denied Harry's security requests after a Risk Management Board meeting. RAVEC determined that no security would be provided for the visit.
Palace Frustration and Unanswered Questions
A source told the Daily Mail's royal editor, Rebecca English, that the palace's offer of a royal residence for the Sussexes has not been accepted, with only eight days before Harry's scheduled arrival. Harry has previously declined to stay at Buckingham Palace due to security concerns.
A source familiar with the situation said: "For the sake of family harmony the Palace would have been perfectly happy with a peaceful and low-key visit. Yet, once again, they have turned it into a soap opera. It's tiresome."
Security Battle Continues
Last year, Prince Harry lost his court battle with the Home Office over RAVEC's 2020 decision to strip him of his 24-hour police protection when he left the UK. He appealed to the Home Secretary for a reassessment, but no conclusion has been reached ahead of next month's visit.
A source said: "Harry is reassessing things. Ultimately, he is going to do everything he can to find a way to bring them over safely."
Reconciliation Hopes Dashed?
Many had seen the trip as a potential reconciliation between Harry and King Charles, who has not seen his youngest grandchildren since June 2022. Meghan has not been to the UK since September 2022, for the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II.
Harry is set to visit Britain to mark the "One Year to Go" countdown for the 2027 Invictus Games and to support charities like WellChild and Scotty's Little Soldiers.
