Firefighters are dealing with yet another grass fire in Wales after weeks of dry weather which has left mountains scorched. Fire crews have been battling a number of significant wildfires this week, with the Welsh Government activating "crisis management arrangements" in response.
On Thursday evening, smoke was seen billowing over Swansea as emergency services were called to another fire. South Wales Police said Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service is aware of a fire on Kilvey Hill, St Thomas.
Flames close to homes
Images from the scene show large flames on the mountainside, creeping close to some of the properties on Kilvey Hill. Residents are reporting smoke and ash from the fire already travelling over areas of the city.
South Wales Police said: "Anyone within the vicinity should keep their windows and doors closed due to the smoke." Leader of Swansea Council Rob Stewart asked residents to follow advice from emergency services.
Ongoing wildfires
It comes as fire crews have spent much of the last week battling a number of huge wildfires. The largest of these, in Blaenavon, has left more than 300 football pitches worth of land completely scorched and blackened. Smoke from the blaze has been affecting communities as far as 30 miles away. The Blaenavon fire is expected to continue burning for a number of days.
