One man has been bailed and another remains in hospital under police guard after their arrest in connection with a horror crash that left two people dead.
Crash details
Emergency services descended on the A57 Hyde Road in Gorton on Wednesday evening (August 5) after a car collided with a stationary digger. Greater Manchester Police said that four people were inside the car at the time of the collision, and that a man and woman sadly died at the scene.
The force later confirmed their ages as 23 and 24. They have not yet been named publicly, with their families being supported by specialist officers.
Arrests and update
Two men in their 20s were rushed to hospital with serious injuries and were subsequently arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. In an update on Friday (August 7) a spokesperson for GMP said that one man had been bailed while the other remained under arrest in hospital under police guard.
Police initially said a car had collided with a house, but later confirmed the vehicle had hit a digger.
Appeal for witnesses
Detective Sergeant Louise Warhurst, of GMP's Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the victims in this tragic incident."
"We are appealing for any witnesses who may have saw the moments leading up to this incident, or anyone who has mobile phone, Ring doorbell or dash cam footage, to come forward and assist our investigation."
