A delivery driver in Glasgow was targeted by a group of far-right thugs following an anti-immigration protest, with footage showing them throwing a traffic cone at his back.
Attack in Tradeston
The incident occurred near the corner of Kingston Street and Bridge Street in Tradeston. The man was walking when a group of yobs followed him, aggressively pointing and chanting 'get them out'. He attempted to flee before one of the protestors threw a traffic cone at his back, with members of the group cheering and calling him a 'sh***bag'. The cone is believed not to have hit him, and he quickly escaped to safety inside a local restaurant.
Violent protests across Glasgow
The attack came as violent scenes erupted across Glasgow city centre during the anti-immigration protest. Counter-protesters attended the Unite the Clans rally, leading to numerous clashes. Footage showed masked men throwing objects back and forth while police tried to keep the groups apart. Officers were seen drawing batons and demanding those approaching a boundary fence on Greendyke Street stay back.
Chief Superintendent Emma Croft stated that such violence would not be tolerated. She confirmed 15 arrests had been made, saying: 'We have seen significant disorder from disparate groups in Glasgow today at what should have been peaceful, lawful protests... the behaviour from many of these groups is not legitimate protest, it amounts to violence, intimidation and fear and will not be tolerated.'
Officers recovered weapons indicating pre-meditated disorder, and enquiries continue. The protests and associated incidents have concluded, with a visible policing presence maintained in the city centre and surrounding areas.
