Girl, 7, Severely Injured in California Dog Attack

A seven-year-old girl in Corning, California, is in critical condition after a pack of stray dogs attacked her while she was playing near her home on Saturday afternoon. Patricia Edmiston suffered a ripped scalp and shredded legs in the vicious ambush, which occurred around 12:30 p.m. near her residence.

Attack Details and Response

The Tehama County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that six dogs believed to be involved in the attack have been seized and taken to the Tehama County Animal Shelter. Authorities are investigating the incident, though the breeds of the dogs and their owners remain unknown.

Patricia was rushed to UC Davis Hospital, where she has already undergone surgery. Her grandmother, Monica Edmiston, publicly identified the girl and set up a GoFundMe campaign to support the family. The fundraiser notes that Patricia has “numerous wounds all over her body” and remains in critical condition.

Family's Struggles and Community Support

Monica Edmiston described Patricia as “an incredibly strong little girl” whose “resilience is inspiring everyone around her.” However, the family faces enormous challenges. Patricia’s father and brothers, who have been by her side daily, must sleep in their car in Sacramento to be close to the hospital, as UC Davis is 100 miles south of Corning. The family needs financial help to cover basic necessities like gas and food.

As of the latest update, the GoFundMe campaign has raised $4,100 (approximately £3,060). Monica shared a photo of Patricia in a hospital bed with a bandaged head and a cast on her left arm, along with an update: “Patricia is doing so good she gets to come home on Thursday. Patricia and her family would like to thank everyone for their prayers, thoughts, and donations. The love the town of Corning showed was overwhelming. God bless you all.”
