A 7-year-old girl suffered significant injuries to her scalp and legs after being attacked by multiple dogs in Corning, California, according to authorities. The child, identified by her family as Patricia, was attacked around 12:30 p.m. on June 27 near Barham Avenue and Bosque Avenue, the Tehama County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release.
Family Launches Fundraiser for Recovery
A GoFundMe organized by Patricia’s grandmother, Monica Edmiston, has raised more than $4,100, surpassing its original $3,000 goal. “The dogs ripped her scalp off and left her with numerous wounds all over her body,” Edmiston wrote. “Patricia is an incredibly strong little girl, and her resilience is inspiring everyone around her.”
The fundraiser noted Patricia’s father and brothers stayed by her side throughout her hospital stay, sleeping in their car in Sacramento to remain close to her while seeking help with gas, food, and other necessities.
Discharged from Hospital
In an update on June 30, Edmiston said Patricia had been discharged. “Our little warrior Patricia made it home today. She is happy to be back with her family, but she has a long road ahead of her,” the update read.
Investigation Ongoing
According to the Tehama County Sheriff’s Office, deputies interviewed witnesses at the scene. Six dogs believed to be involved were seized as evidence and taken to the Tehama County Animal Shelter. The investigation remains ongoing, and no arrests or citations have been made. Authorities said additional information will be released as it becomes available.
