A six-year-old girl has died following a collision on the A12 near Colchester involving a lorry and a car. The crash shut the busy route for hours near Colchester yesterday (August 10).
Emergency response
All emergency services raced to the northbound carriageway just after 10.30am, where a lorry and car had collided close to junction 28. The youngster died at the scene, while another child was rushed to hospital with a leg injury and remains under care on Wednesday.
No arrests were made at the scene and the lorry driver passed all roadside tests and is due to be interviewed in the coming days, reports Essex Live.
Investigation ongoing
Detective Inspector Mark Fraser, from Essex Police's serious collision investigation unit, is leading the investigation. He said: "First and foremost, my thoughts are very much with this young child's family and wider loved ones. We have specialist officers in place with them to ensure they are given as much support as possible. Our investigation is progressing and we will be interviewing a driver of a lorry in the coming days."
He added: "Incidents such as this are clearly sensitive and complex and we are committed to fully understanding the circumstances around what happened yesterday. If you have any information, dash cam or footage of any kind which you have not yet shared with us, please get in touch."
A police spokesperson said: "If you have information please contact us or independent charity Crimestoppers completely anonymously. Please quote incident 421 of 10 August when providing any information to make sure it gets to the right officer as quickly as possible."
