A six-year-old girl has died and another child was injured following a collision between a car and a lorry on the A12 in Essex. The incident occurred on the northbound carriageway near Colchester at approximately 10.30am yesterday.
Emergency response and road closure
The road was closed for hours while emergency services attempted to save the girl. She was treated at the scene but succumbed to her injuries. A second child sustained a leg injury and was taken to hospital.
An air ambulance landed on the carriageway near junction 28, close to the service station, as part of the response.
Investigation and driver status
No arrests have been made at this stage, and the lorry driver passed all roadside tests, according to Essex Police. Detective Inspector Mark Fraser said: “First and foremost, my thoughts are very much with this young child’s family and wider loved ones. We have specialist officers in place with them to ensure they are given as much support as possible.”
He added: “Our investigation is progressing and we will be interviewing a driver of a lorry in the coming days. Incidents such as this are clearly sensitive and complex and we are committed to fully understanding the circumstances around what happened yesterday.”
Appeal for information
Police are urging anyone with information, dash cam footage, or other material not yet shared to come forward. The investigation continues, with further interviews planned in the coming days.
