A 16-year-old girl has died after being hit by a car outside a school in north London. The crash took place at around 8am on North Road in Highgate, with the teenager pronounced dead at the scene.
Arrest made after collision
The driver of the car involved, a 68-year-old man, did not sustain any injuries and has been arrested on suspicion of death by careless driving. He has been taken into custody.
A Met Police spokesperson said: "On Thursday, September 24, at 8.13am police were called to reports of a collision involving a pedestrian and car on Northroad, Hornsey. Officers attended the scene alongside the London Ambulance Service, London Fire Brigade and London Air Ambulance."
Police appeal for information
The spokesperson added: "The pedestrian, a 16-year-old girl, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. Her next-of-kin has been informed and is being supported by officers at this difficult time."
Road closures remain in place, and people are asked to avoid the area. Enquiries are ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to call 101 quoting CAD1525/24Sept.
