Cameras captured the moment a 14-year-old girl was struck by a car while a TV crew reported live from the scene of another child's death in Kościerzyna, Poland. The teenager was riding her e-scooter on the road when a motorist suddenly ploughed into her, sending her crashing into the car's windscreen before she was thrown through the air.
Journalist's Account
The footage was recorded as TVP journalist Miłosz Sieliwończyk was reporting live from the scene where a young boy had been fatally crushed by a car. The video shows the driver fleeing the scene.
Miłosz said: "At one point, I heard a bang behind me and the operator's shout: 'Oh Jesus!' When I turned around, I saw a car driving away with a shattered windshield and a child lying there."
Immediate Response
He then advised the camera operator to continue filming and zoom in on the licence plate so they could report the incident to the police, before he approached the youngster. He said: "She was unable to stand. I saw blood stains on the scooter."
The emergency services were called and arrived at the scene in three minutes, followed by her mum who arrived on a bicycle. Paramedics took the girl to hospital for a check-up, but believed her injuries were not serious.
Driver Returns and Investigation
The driver returned to the scene minutes later. Miłosz said: "He must have been in shock too, because he got out of the car and asked if something had happened." Police are investigating the collision.
The reporter had been reporting from the scene where a three-year-old boy was crushed by a car. The child was pulled from under the vehicle by his parents and underwent extensive resuscitation attempts by firefighters and then paramedics. The boy sadly succumbed to his injuries.
