CCTV footage captured the moment a 12-year-old girl ran for her life after her 16-year-old brother allegedly stabbed their mother to death in Perth, Western Australia.
The girl was seen dashing through the streets of Perth early on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, wearing her pyjamas and dressing gown. The footage from neighbours shows her running at speed just a minute after emergency services were called to her family home in Bentley.
Police have charged the 16-year-old brother with murder. The mother, 35, was found deceased at the scene.
Details of the incident
Detective Acting Inspector Jessica Securo of WA Police said: “At approximately 6:15am today, Tuesday, the 21st of July, 2026, WA police received reports of a serious incident at a residence in Mills Street in Bentley.
“Police attended the location where they located a 35-year-old female, deceased. A short time later, a 12-year-old girl was located with serious injuries at a nearby location.”
The girl was found around 600 metres from her home on Albany Highway in Cannington. She was taken to hospital and remains there receiving treatment.
Charges and court appearance
On Wednesday, July 22, the 16-year-old boy appeared before Perth Children’s Court. A WA police spokesperson said he has been charged with murder and attempted unlawfully to kill.
