An 11-year-old girl who went missing at a Scottish beauty spot has been found dead in a river. Faith Curran vanished at Gore Glen Woodland Park, near Gorebridge, at around 12:40pm on Thursday, August 6, sparking a large police search. She was found hours later in the Gore Water river close to Shanks Bridge.
Community fundraising
Officers say her death is currently being treated as unexplained but not suspicious. Faith, who was excited to start high school, leaves behind her dad Joe and her younger brother Jude.
The surrounding community has come together to support the family by raising money for her funeral. Rebecca Campbell, a close family friend, disclosed that Joe had been left "broken" by his daughter's sudden death.
She said: "After speaking with Joe, neighbours, friends and family have decided to set up this gofundme page in memory of Faith. Sadly Faith passed away suddenly as the result of a tragic accident while out exploring with family and friends."
Family tribute
In a previous statement released via Police Scotland, Faith's family, who reside in the local area, described her as a "happy, adventurous and outgoing girl who enjoyed life".
A GoFundMe page established in the schoolgirl's memory has so far raised £2,500 towards a £4,000 target. The Gore Water river flows through the park, which affords views of the Pentland Hills to the south of Edinburgh.
Midlothian North MSP Colin Beattie previously commented: "I was deeply saddened to hear of the tragic death of a young girl at Gore Glen Woodland Park."
