Emergency services are at the scene of a fire in Garston, Liverpool, after a blaze broke out in a shop in the early hours of Sunday, August 9. Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service were called to St Mary's Road at 3.58am, where they found a shop and the flat above it ablaze.
Firefighting Operation
Three fire engines were involved in tackling the fire, with firefighters gaining access to the building to extinguish the flames. The fire was fully extinguished by 5.17am, but two engines remained on scene to hotspot the area. All persons are accounted for.
Gas Leak and Evacuations
Two neighbouring flats were later evacuated due to a gas leak. Workers from Scottish Power Energy Networks are currently repairing the leak, with work likely to continue into the afternoon. A police cordon is in place on St Mary's Road.
