A 38-year-old mother has tragically died in a freak BBQ accident in front of her two children in Sydney, Australia. Charlotte Rose-Ann Hill lost her life after numerous surgeries following severe burns sustained while celebrating the start of the school holidays with her kids.
Incident Details
The blaze started when Ms Hill lit a BBQ, resulting in her being set alight. Her two children watched in horror. Her cousin, Bianca Hill, recounted: “Her youngest daughter screamed.” Bianca added: “She screamed the loudest she has ever screamed in her life to alert their dad, who was getting ready to go to work.”
Children's Response
Bianca praised the children's actions: “I'm actually extremely proud of the way that they handled the situation despite how traumatic it would have been for them... (her son) used his jacket to try and put out the fire on his mum.” Thankfully, the children were not injured. The father attempted first aid before Ms Hill was rushed to hospital.
Medical Complications
After undergoing surgeries, Ms Hill suffered an unexpected medical complication leading to her death. Bianca noted that Ms Hill had witnessed her own mother's death when young and did not want her children to experience the same pain. “Tragically, that is now the reality Noah and Billie-Rose must face. No child should have to navigate the loss of their mother so young,” she said.
Fundraiser
Bianca launched a GoFundMe campaign to cover funeral costs and the children's schooling expenses. She described her sister: “She broke hearts with her beautiful smile... she was always just such a generous and very kind person with the biggest heart. She'd do anything to make her kids' day.” At the time of reporting, the fundraiser had raised £12,815 ($24K AUD), nearing its target of £18,333 ($35K AUD).
