Four men have died following a serious collision in Huyton near Liverpool. Merseyside Police were called to Liverpool Road shortly before 2am Friday morning (July 24), after reports that a black Seat Cupra had left the carriageway and struck a lamppost while travelling towards Knowsley.
Despite the attendance of emergency services, two men aged 23, along with two others aged 24 and 26, were pronounced dead at the scene. Their next of kin have been notified and are receiving support from specially-trained officers.
Passenger Hospitalised
A 27-year-old man, who was also a passenger in the vehicle, has been taken to hospital where his condition is described as stable.
A police cordon has been established as investigators begin their enquiries. Liverpool Road and East Prescot Road remain closed in both directions between the junctions with Finch Lane and Princess Drive. Merseyside Police have indicated these closures are expected to remain in place throughout the weekend.
Police Appeal for Information
Superintendent Paul Holden said: "First and foremost our thoughts are with the family of the four men who sadly lost their lives following the collision in the early hours of this morning. Their families have been informed and are being supported by our specially trained family liaison officers."
"This is a truly devastating moment for their families and loved ones, and it is now our priority to get answers for them on how the collision occurred," he added. "We know this happened very early this morning, but if anyone saw what happened or were driving through the area just before the incident occurred then please get in touch."
"Similarly, if you live in the area and have doorbell footage of the black Seat Cupra or the incident itself, please contact us. You may have information or footage that would be useful to our investigation."
Drone Restriction Imposed
A temporary flight restriction zone, specifically affecting drones, has also been implemented above Liverpool Road in Huyton. The restriction regulations fall under article 239 of the Air Navigation Order 2016. No drones are permitted to fly within the area outlined in the attached map. Drone users flying inside the Restricted Airspace that have not been granted permission will be guilty of committing an offence and could be prosecuted as well as having their equipment seized and confiscated.
Merseyside Police Drones, air ambulances, Fire Service Drones and NPAS are excluded from the airspace restriction. Anyone who wishes to seek consideration for the safe and appropriate flight of a drone in these areas must obtain permission from Merseyside Police, Tac Ad on 07971688873.
