Flight attendant warns never to wear shorts on plane

A flight attendant has issued a hygiene warning to passengers, advising them never to wear shorts on a plane. The cabin crew member shared her reasoning on social media, explaining that aircraft seats are not as clean as travelers might assume, despite being cleaned between flights.

Flight attendant's first-hand experience

Taking to social media, the flight attendant said: "Since everyone gets fuming mad at me when I say, don't wear shorts when you travel... coming from a flight attendant." She then revealed what she had witnessed during a single shift: "Guess how many diapers got changed on the seats yesterday on my one flight. Guess how many? Four."

She added that crew members made three announcements asking passengers not to change diapers on seats, but "people don't care." According to the flight attendant, all four diapers she saw changed that day were soiled. "Guess how many of those diapers were poopy? All four. They change them on the seat." She warned: "And you wanna rub your skin on there. You do. You're dying to enjoy your staph infection. Just don't say I didn't warn you."

Public reaction

The remarks sparked debate online, with many travelers admitting they had never considered what might have happened on their seat before boarding. One viewer commented: "I will never wear shorts and I will never wear flared pants... that's not water on the bathroom floor. My lululemon yoga pants aren't going to soak up that floor juice! Black leggings only - year round!"

Another user said: "And the real issue is all airlines not having a proper place for parents to change their baby!" A third added: "I've had people change them on the tray table and acted shocked when I told them to not do that and gave them wipes to clean it up." One traveler noted: "I never thought of wearing shorts. But I'll definitely wipe my seat with Lysol now."

Hygiene concerns on planes

The flight attendant's warning highlights broader hygiene issues on aircraft. While airlines clean seats between flights, the practice of changing diapers on seats or tray tables poses health risks, including potential exposure to bacteria like staphylococcus. Passengers are advised to take precautions, such as wearing long pants and wiping down surfaces with disinfectant wipes.
