The remains of five infants have been discovered at a couple's residence in Orange, south-east France, according to local media reports. Investigators uncovered the bodies in cardboard containers at the property, as reported by multiple sources cited by French newspaper Le Parisien.
Discovery after hospital birth
The discovery followed after the woman, born in 1994, delivered her third child in hospital on Monday evening, after a third occurrence of pregnancy denial. For reasons that remain unexplained, the hospital in Orange contacted authorities.
Partner finds remains
The woman's partner, who was absent when she went to the hospital, examined boxes in their residence following a dispute about their contents. He allegedly found a decomposing corpse and transported it to the hospital, where medical staff contacted authorities.
Police investigation
Officers searched the couple's residence and found fetuses in plastic bags stored in cardboard containers. The couple already has two children, aged eight and 12. The woman remains in hospital and has not been arrested.
