Mihai Chinez, 49, and his daughter Denisa Mihaela Chinez, 24, both of Banagher, Co Offaly, in Ireland, died at Banagher Precast Concrete shortly before midday on Monday, September 28. The pair were originally from Romania but had been living in Offaly and working at the plant in Banagher for many years.
Incident details
At the time of the incident, they were understood to be preparing a concrete mould, the Irish Mirror reports. Gardai and emergency services rushed to the precast concrete company site at around 11.40am but both Mihai and Denisa were pronounced dead at the scene. Their bodies were removed to Midlands Regional Hospital Tullamore, where post-mortem examinations took place.
Funeral arrangements
A funeral notice on RIP.ie said: "Mihai Chinez and his daughter Denisa Mihaela Chinez, Banagher, Co. Offaly, and formerly of Romania. Mihai and Denisa passed away suddenly following a tragic accident on 29th September."
"They will be sadly missed and deeply regretted by Mihai’s wife and Denisa’s mother, Angela, Mihai's daughter and Denisa’s sister, Lavinia Alexandra, Denisa’s fiancé, Liviu Blaj, their extended family, neighbours, many friends and work colleagues. May their gentle souls rest in eternal peace."
The funeral will be held at Banagher Community Centre on tomorrow evening (Wednesday) with their joint funeral Mass will at St. Rynagh’s Church, Banagher, on Thursday.
Company response
Banagher Precast Concrete said the incident was "a devastating tragedy for everyone connected with our company" and that employees were "all in deep shock". In a statement to RTE News, the company said its Board of Directors, management team and employees extended their "deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences" to the families, friends and colleagues of those who have died.
The company also expressed its gratitude to the emergency services and all those who responded to the incident. The circumstances surrounding the incident are not yet fully known. Banagher Precast Concrete said it would cooperate fully with all statutory bodies and provide whatever assistance is required as part of the investigation.
The company said the safety of its people has always been a core value and is embedded throughout its daily operations. It described an incident of this severity as "unprecedented" for the organisation and said employees were "all in deep shock".
