A number of people have died and four have been taken to hospital after a car drove the wrong way along a motorway in Ireland. The crash occurred on the northbound stretch of the M9 road in Co Kildare at around 3am on August 16, 2026.
Head-on collision
Gardaí, the Irish police force, described the incident as a 'head-on collision'. Among the injured passengers was a child, who remains in a serious condition.
Injuries and hospital treatment
The female driver and front passenger in the second car, both in their 30s, remain in a critical condition at Tallaght University Hospital. Another woman in her 20s, who was a passenger in the rear seat, is also in a serious condition at St Luke's General Hospital.
