Ellis Cox, 19, was shot in the back while cycling home after a day out with friends at the Liver Industrial Estate in Aintree, Liverpool, on June 23, 2024. Police believe he was an innocent victim and was not the intended target.
Two years on, ten people have been arrested in connection with Ellis' death, but all have been released on bail or without charge as police continue to search for his killer. His family remain desperate for answers.
Family pleads on This Morning
On Wednesday's This Morning, Ellis' mum Carolyn and his aunt Julie appeared alongside crime expert David Wilson to issue a plea to find the people responsible for his death.
Talking to hosts Josie Gibson and Rylan Clark, Carolyn said: "There's been a number of arrests, but nobody's actually been charged. We just keep appealing for, basically, we need more information. We need someone to help us."
Rylan, 37, emotionally replied: "You don't need it, you deserve it!" Carolyn continued: "With anything that they can help us with because we will continue to do what we're doing because we need justice for Ellis."
Mother recalls moment she was told
Carolyn heartbreakingly recalled the moment she was told Ellis had died: "It was disbelief. I just, I remember I kept saying, 'No, it's not him, it's not him, it's not him.' I ran, I don't know where I ran to, but because I was in this little room and I just ran and I remember Julie picking me up off the floor. But I just kept saying, 'No, there's no way it was Ellis. Just, no!' I just didn't believe that. I thought they'd got it wrong."
Host Josie, 41, was left moved by the emotional interview, commenting: "No mother should ever have to go through that... the tragedy of losing your son."
Reward offered for information
Crimestoppers is currently offering a £20,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of those responsible. This has recently been extended until Tuesday 6 October 2026.
Ellis' family has also fundraised and is offering an additional £20,000, making the total amount £40,000. This Morning airs every weekday at 10am on both ITV and ITV X.
