An electrician who brutally murdered his partner and then caused a devastating gas explosion has been sentenced to life in prison. Clifton George, 45, killed Annabel Rook, 46, by stabbing her 31 times during a violent altercation at their home in east London. The attack occurred after Ms. Rook expressed her desire to end their 10-year relationship.
The Frenzied Attack
The court heard that George, an electrician by trade, flew into a rage when Ms. Rook told him their relationship was over. In a fit of uncontrollable fury, he stabbed her repeatedly, inflicting 31 wounds. The attack was described as frenzied and brutal, leaving no chance for Ms. Rook to survive.
Gas Explosion and Property Damage
After murdering his partner, George attempted to cover up the crime by starting a fire in the basement. The fire triggered a gas canister explosion that ripped through the house, causing approximately £400,000 in damages. The explosion was so powerful that it destroyed much of the property and endangered neighboring homes.
Life Sentence Handed Down
At Snaresbrook Crown Court on Tuesday, Mr. Justice Constable sentenced George to life imprisonment. The judge ordered that he must serve at least 23 years before he becomes eligible for parole. The sentence reflects the severity of the crime and the premeditated nature of the explosion.
Annabel Rook was the daughter of a judge, and her family expressed their devastation at her loss. In a statement, they described her as a loving and kind person whose life was tragically cut short.
