EastEnders actor Shane Richie has been handed a six-month driving ban after admitting a speeding offence. The 62-year-old, known for playing Alfie Moon in the BBC soap, appeared before Guildford Magistrates' Court on September 23.
Fine and costs ordered
Magistrate Sheila Hewitt imposed a £500 fine on the actor, along with £120 in costs and a £200 victim surcharge. Richie, whose real name is Shane Roche, submitted a guilty plea in writing, with the case dealt with privately through the Single Justice Procedure.
Separate drink-driving charge
The actor, who lives in Tadworth, Surrey, is also awaiting trial on a separate allegation of drink-driving. He appeared at Colchester Magistrates' Court earlier this month to face the charge, which he denies.
It is alleged that Richie was driving a white Hyundai along Church Langley Way in Harlow, Essex, while over the legal alcohol limit on July 29. The court heard he allegedly provided a breath sample reading of 65 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath, exceeding the legal limit of 35 micrograms.
A trial has been scheduled for November 17 2027 at the same court. Richie, who finished fourth on I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! in 2020, has hosted numerous game shows, appeared in pantomimes, and has been part of the EastEnders cast since 2002.
