East Lancs Road reopens after serious motorbike crash

A 23-year-old motorcyclist was seriously injured in a crash on the East Lancs Road near Wigan, prompting a road closure that has since been lifted.

Greater Manchester Police was called to the A580 at 7.45pm on Thursday evening (August 7). The motorcyclist was rushed to hospital from the scene for treatment.

Condition and road closure

The rider remains in hospital this morning (Friday) in a stable but serious condition, according to GMP.

The road was closed eastbound from Haydock Island, with the closure stretching to the M6 at junction 23, near Haydock Park. A GMP spokesperson said: "We were called following reports of a motorcyclist having been involved in a road traffic collision. The rider remains in a stable condition but has sustained serious injuries. Road has since reopened."
