Jack Clarkin, 26, of Murchison Drive, East Kilbride, has been jailed for 18 months at Hamilton Sheriff Court after smashing a window with a rock at his former partner's home and threatening her and her new boyfriend with a knife.
The sentence was reduced by a year due to time he had already spent on a bail curfew before the case was concluded.
Incident details
Clarkin admitted carrying an offensive weapon and acting in a threatening or abusive manner in Rosslyn Avenue, East Kilbride, on June 17, 2024. The court heard he and his partner had been together for eight years and have two children. They separated in February 2024, and the incident occurred four months later when Clarkin called at his ex-partner's home regarding childcare.
Connor McIntyre, prosecuting, said: "The accused shouted 'Who are you hiding there?' and left but returned to the house at 11.15 that night. He threw a rock through the kitchen window then ran into the kitchen where the woman, her new boyfriend and another female were. He was in possession of a knife and began to brandish this, but the women intervened and he ran away."
Arrest and previous conviction
Police were contacted but Clarkin was not traced at that time. He was arrested at Glasgow Airport at 3.25am on July 22, 2024. The court also heard that Clarkin has a previous conviction for carrying a knife.
