Ear-Biting Thug Jailed Again for E-Scooter Robbery

Kalem Lodge, a violent offender who previously severed part of a fellow poker player's ear with his teeth, has been returned to prison after admitting to an e-scooter robbery. The 36-year-old appeared at Teesside Crown Court on Friday, 19 June, via video link from Holme House Prison, where he was sentenced to 27 months in custody.

Robbery in Hartlepool

Lodge, of Brenda Road, Hartlepool, pleaded guilty to the robbery of an e-scooter on Jackson Street in the town on 6 March this year. He had been held in custody since his April hearing. The judge handed down a 27-month prison term for the offence.

Previous Ear-Biting Assault

In November 2019, Lodge received a five-year sentence for a brutal assault that occurred on 6 September 2018. He was participating in a poker league at the Mill House pub, off Raby Road, in Hartlepool when he attacked a fellow player outside the establishment. The incident began after an exchange about a cigarette. The victim had gone to assist a friend whom Lodge had knocked to the floor. Lodge then bit a 'sizeable' portion from the victim's ear.

The victim reportedly said, 'there's my ear', retrieved the piece of flesh from the pavement, and returned inside the pub, where it was preserved in ice, according to Teesside Live. The severed section could not be reattached, and the victim received stitches at the hospital.

Extensive Criminal Record

In an unrelated incident in September 2019, Lodge arrived at a property on Mulgrave Road in Hartlepool brandishing a machete amid a dispute over crowdfunding. He claimed that money raised for a deceased friend's family had been squandered on drugs. Lodge has a criminal record comprising nearly 30 offences, including assault, affray, burglary, theft, racially aggravated harassment, and possession of a firework at a sports ground.
