Drunk banned from booze after throwing flapjack at cop's genitals

Kristen Naylor, 29, has been banned from consuming alcohol for three months after a violent outburst that included punching his father, striking a dog, and throwing a flapjack at a police officer's genitals. The incident occurred at his mother's home in Lowton, Wigan, where his father John was staying after an operation.

Attack on father and dog

Prosecutor Katie Lord told Bolton Crown Court that Naylor arrived home "very drunk" and began arguing with his father. When John said he had "had enough" and attempted to leave with his two dogs, Naylor followed him, demanding his dog back. He tried to snatch a lead, then pressed his head against his father's and threatened him. Naylor proceeded to punch John repeatedly in the head, causing him to fall. The attack lasted about 45 seconds, during which one of the dogs was caught by Naylor.

Assault on police officer

Police were called, and PC Shepherd attended. Naylor told the officer, "I could make your life hell," and was obstructive during arrest. At the station, he was given a Pot Noodle and a flapjack. He threw the Pot Noodle at the officer but missed, then threw the flapjack, which struck the officer in the genitals, causing "sharp and immediate pain." Judge Kenderik Horne noted that the officer also felt sick.

Sentence and conditions

Naylor's defence barrister, Richard Bridgen, did not offer mitigation after the judge indicated the likely sentence. Naylor received a 12-month prison sentence, suspended for 18 months. He was ordered to complete 100 hours of unpaid work, 10 rehabilitation activity requirement days, a three-month alcohol abstinence and monitoring requirement, and a six-month mental health treatment requirement. He must also pay £150 in prosecution costs.

Naylor, of Lower Nook Meadow, Lowton, Wigan, pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm, causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal, and assaulting an emergency worker by beating.
