The remark came as he discussed awarding himself and his sons the Congressional Medal of Honor, the highest U.S. military award for courage.
Teleprompter Failure Leads to Unscripted Remarks
Speaking at the dedication ceremony for the new Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library, Trump told the crowd that his teleprompters had malfunctioned. He then began discussing the historic father-son duo of Arthur and Douglas MacArthur, both Medal of Honor recipients. Looking over at his sons, Trump said: 'As I see my two beautiful sons sitting there, I think I'm going to give one to myself and one to them. We'll have a threesome. I'll pick out one of the two. I'll give them the Congressional Medal of Honor for something.'
Trump Catches Himself, Blames 'Fake News'
After the audience laughed, Trump quickly clarified he was joking. 'You know, I want to give one to myself, but they tell me, and I'm allowed to. I'll get one for taking on Russia, Russia, Russia or something. We'll have a third pair. No, I'm only kidding... this is dangerous to say because the fake news is up there. They're all over the place. When I joke, I always, I learned earlier, don't be sarcastic in politics.'

This is not the first time Trump has made questionable remarks about his children. In 1997, when his daughter Ivanka was 16 and co-hosting the Miss Teen USA pageant, Trump allegedly said to Miss Universe Brook Antoinette Mahealani Lee: 'Don't you think my daughter's hot? She's hot, right?' according to the New York Times. On The View, when asked how he would react if Ivanka posed for Playboy, Trump replied that it would depend on the content, adding: 'Although she does have a very nice figure. I've said that if Ivanka weren't my daughter, perhaps, I would be dating her.' A spokesperson later said Trump was joking.
