A man has been killed after his van plunged off a cliff edge at Friar's Bay in Peacehaven, Sussex. Emergency services were called to the scene at around 4.30pm on Wednesday, 1 July, following reports of a vehicle going over the cliff.

Body found on the beach

Sussex Police confirmed that the van was located on the beach below, and the driver, a man yet to be formally identified, was sadly found deceased. A police spokesperson said: 'Police received a report of a van going over the cliff edge at Peacehaven at about 4.30pm on Wednesday, 1 July. The van was located and the driver, a man who is yet to be formally identified, was sadly found deceased.'

Investigation underway

Police are investigating the full circumstances of the tragic incident, and the coroner's officer has been informed. Lewes District Council also issued a statement, saying: 'Sussex Police are responding to an incident involving a vehicle at Friars Bay, Peacehaven. LDC officers are on site supporting. Please avoid the area, and the beach in particular. We will share more details soon.'
