A 21-year-old man has avoided serious injury after his car wrapped around a tree in a crash in Adelaide, South Australia. Police described the driver as incredibly fortunate to escape with only minor injuries.
Crash in Chandlers Hill
South Australia Police were called to the scene just after 7am on Tuesday, 11 August, following reports a car had left Education Road in the southern Adelaide suburb of Chandlers Hill. The sedan crashed into a tree and became wrapped around its trunk, with the car's body shell crumpled around the driver.
Photos supplied by police show a deep curved indent where the car struck the tree, along with a shattered windscreen and a passenger side that had completely caved in. The driver, from the nearby suburb of Seaford Heights, was the only occupant of the vehicle.
Minor injuries and road closure
First responders freed the driver from the wreckage, and he was taken to hospital with only minor injuries. The tree did not survive the impact, and Education Road was closed for some time while wreckage was cleared and traffic restrictions were in place.
A spokesperson for South Australia Police said: "A driver was incredibly fortunate to avoid serious injury after crashing into a tree at Chandlers Hill this morning. Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the crash."

The spokesperson also appealed for anyone who witnessed the incident or was in the Chandlers Hill area at the time and may have dashcam footage to come forward.
