Stephanie Clorley has admitted starving multiple dogs that were found emaciated and in a "debilitating" condition at her home, appearing at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Wednesday, August 26 where she pled guilty to charges under the Animal Health and Welfare (Scotland) Act 2006.
Neglect of Lennie and Jess
The 31-year-old's black and white mixed-breed dog, Lennie, was discovered in appalling condition after Clorley failed to feed her a suitable diet or seek veterinary care. The pet also suffered from "painful and uncomfortable" overgrown nails which led to a debilitating condition.
Clorley's neglect also impacted Jess, a brown and white mixed-breed dog. Similar to Lennie, the pup was found in emaciated condition and suffered from painful overgrown nails. She also had badly matted fur which left her in a "debilitating" state when Clorley failed to bring her to the vet.
Court details and timeline
The heartbreaking incidents took place between October 27, 2024 and December 22, 2024 at an address on Carter Mews in Gilmerton, near Edinburgh, according to Edinburgh Live.
The woman was also charged with neglecting a third animal - a black male Chihuahua named Rocky - and failing to give him proper food leading to emaciation, though this charge was struck out.
Court documents stated that Clorley "did by act or omission" cause the animals "unnecessary suffering and you knew or ought to reasonably have know that said act or omission would have caused the suffering".
Sentencing deferred
While Clorley appeared in court for a deferred sentencing hearing, the necessary social work documents had not been submitted, through no fault of her own. Sheriff Gill adjourned sentencing awaiting a justice social work report.
