Police in Delaware apprehended a 23-year-old man in Philadelphia on Tuesday following a shooting at a Wilmington hospital that left one person dead and another injured. The suspect was taken into custody after a manhunt that prompted a lockdown at the facility, forcing employees to barricade themselves in rooms.
Incident Details
The shooting occurred around 3:30 p.m. at Wilmington hospital, according to Police Chief Wilfredo Campos. He declined to disclose the victims' identities or the condition of the surviving victim. ChristianaCare, which operates the hospital, stated in an email that it was diverting patients from the emergency department and taking all necessary steps to ensure safety. The lockdown was later lifted.
Official Statements
Late Tuesday, officials confirmed the shooting was a targeted, isolated incident. Violence remains a persistent issue at hospitals across the United States.
