The father of an 11-year-old girl found dead in a river at a Scottish beauty spot has been left 'broken', according to a family friend.
Faith Curran was reported missing in Gore Glen Woodland Park near Gorebridge at around 12:40pm on Thursday, August 6. A large police search was launched, and her body was recovered from the Gore Water river near Shanks Bridge hours later.
Community fundraising
Family friend Rebecca Campbell said Joe, Faith's father, was 'broken' by the sudden death. A GoFundMe page has been set up to raise funds for funeral costs and to support the family.
Campbell said: "After speaking with Joe, neighbours, friends and family have decided to set up this gofundme page in memory of Faith. Sadly Faith passed away suddenly as the result of a tragic accident while out exploring with family & friends."
Police statement
Police Scotland said the death is being treated as unexplained but not suspicious, with enquiries ongoing. In an earlier statement, Faith's family described her as a "happy, adventurous and outgoing girl who enjoyed life".
Faith was due to start high school in September and is survived by her father Joe and brother Jude.
Community support
The GoFundMe page has raised £2,500 towards a £4,000 target. Colin Beattie, MSP for Midlothian North, said: "I was deeply saddened to hear of the tragic death of a young girl at Gore Glen Woodland Park. My thoughts are with her family, friends and all those affected by this heartbreaking loss."
