Cyclist knocked into traffic; youth charged with assault

Police have charged a male youth with assault after a cyclist was knocked off his bike into oncoming traffic in Stranraer, Scotland. Footage shared on social media captured the moment Michael, known locally as Squeaky, was riding along Commerce Road when another rider attacked him on Monday, 24 August 2026.

Attack Caught on Video

In the video, Michael is seen pedalling ahead along the A75 London Road when a rider dressed all in black approaches from behind. As Michael notices him and moves away from the kerb, the attacker turns and purposefully collides with him, launching Michael into the air. Michael falls to the ground and appears to kick his bike out from underneath him.

As Michael lies on the concrete, a car approaches, and the attacker jumps off his bike and flees. Shouts of "Oh my God" are heard from the person filming, who was also riding a bike close behind.

Community Response and Fundraiser

The video has left locals "disgusted," and the community has launched a fundraiser to get Michael safety equipment for his bike. One person said: "Absolutely disgusting behaviour. That poor car driver as well. It really could have been a horrific accident! Little p****s trying to show off is all it is! I hope the gentleman in the video is ok."

Another added: "Awww no…I saw him coming down into Stair Drive tonight. If I'd have known this happened to him I would've stopped to help. I hope he's okay." A third said: "Absolutely disgusted to see this. Squeaky doesn't have much except his bike, I hope they're both ok. I do hope the power of Facebook will call them out. It can't be too difficult to find a blue stunt bike."

Fundraiser Nears Goal

The GoFundMe page is close to hitting its goal of £2,000 in just over 24 hours. A statement on the page read: "After seeing the horrifying, unprovoked incident that has happened to Squeaky recently, let's all show him the whole of Stranraer are behind him. Let's help get him safety equipment and cameras so he feels safe to be able to get back on his bike. Squeeky is a kind gentle soul, who wouldn't hurt a fly."

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "A male youth has been charged in connection with assault after a man was pushed off his bike in Commerce Road, Stranraer on Monday, 24 August, 2026. A report will be submitted to the relevant authorities."
