A cyclist is in a life-threatening condition in hospital after being struck by a car in east London. The incident occurred on Aylward Street in Stepney Green at approximately 11:15 PM on Thursday.
Parvez Rahman, 33, from Tower Hamlets, has been charged with attempted murder and failing to stop after a road incident. He appeared at Thames Magistrates' Court on Saturday and was remanded in custody, with a next appearance scheduled at the Old Bailey on September 4.
Emergency Response
London Ambulance Service responded to the scene, with a spokesperson stating: "We were called at 11:16pm yesterday (6 August) to reports of a road traffic collision on Aylward Street, E1. We sent ambulance crews and an incident response officer. We also dispatched a trauma team in a car from London’s Air Ambulance. We treated a patient at the scene and took him to a major trauma centre as a priority by road."
Distressing footage circulating on social media appears to show a car hitting a cyclist at high speed. The victim, a man in his 50s, remains in hospital in a critical condition.
