Curzon Ashton has condemned online abuse aimed at one of its players and their family following a 3-2 defeat to Bury FC at Gigg Lane. The club's board of directors issued a statement vowing to 'address the behaviour of those responsible'.

The Ashton-under-Lyne side were ahead at half time but slipped to a 3-2 defeat in the second half of their second Northern Premier League match of the season on August 11. Striker Tony Weston, who had scored twice in the first half, saw a late penalty saved as Curzon missed the chance to equalise.
Club statement
The board's statement, posted on the Curzon Ashton website on Wednesday, said: "Online abuse of any form is not acceptable, and instances of abusive and threatening behaviour will not be tolerated by Curzon Ashton FC.
"Last night, we were made aware of multiple comments being made towards one of our players and their family, such behaviour has no place in football or wider society. The club will not tolerate personal abuse, harassment or threatening behaviour, and will take all appropriate steps to support those affected and address the behaviour of those responsible."
The board issued a warning to anyone posting abuse online, vowing to take action against those responsible.
