Tim and Sally Metcalfe's peaceful life on the cobbles is about to take a dark turn in Coronation Street as they uncover a family secret involving murder.
This week, Tim's cousin Richie, played by Nathan Sussex, makes his first appearance. While Tim is out working, he's surprised to pick up his relative, whom he hasn't seen in years. With Sally away, Tim invites Richie over and gathers the lads for drinks. As they chat about their childhood, Steve McDonald feels left out of the conversation.
A text that changes everything
Things start to go wrong when Richie receives a text from his wife, Rachel, making it clear he's in trouble for staying out all night. Richie leaves but returns a few hours later with a holdall, explaining that Rachel has thrown him out. Sally reluctantly agrees to let Richie stay, but quickly grows annoyed and tells Tim he needs to leave.
Richie packs his bag and takes a cab, telling Tim he'll stay with a mate in Liverpool. After he leaves, Tim finds Richie's wallet down the sofa and heads to his home, hoping to return it. When Tim knocks on the door, Richie answers covered in blood. Looking inside, Tim calls the police.

The next day, DS Lisa Connor-Swain arrives with news that Richie has been charged with killing his wife. Richie claims he acted in self-defence, and his daughter Lucy has been taken into care. Social worker Ruth calls Sally, informing her that Lucy's foster placement has fallen through and they're struggling to find another suitable family.
Desperate to help, Tim arranges for Lucy to move in with them without asking Sally first. Lucy arrives, and Ruth explains she needs reassurance due to the grief and trauma she's experiencing. But when Sally goes to fetch Lucy for tea, she discovers the youngster has run off. Fortunately, Sally and Tim find Lucy at the bus stop and bring her back home.
