Coronation Street: Summer Hospital Dash as Theo Murder Twist Looms

Coronation Street's Summer Spellman is set to be rushed to hospital in upcoming scenes, as the soap edges closer to revealing who actually murdered Theo Silverton. The evil scaffolder, played by James Cartwright, was found dead at the end of a highly publicised Murder Week, with five suspects initially in the frame.

Suspects and Charges

Shortly after the dramatic night, show bosses confirmed that Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce), Theo's colleague Gary Windass (Mikey Norton), Todd's surrogate father George Shuttleworth (Tony Maudsley), his partner Christina Boyd (Amy Robbins), and Theo's ex-wife Danielle Anderson (Natalie Anderson) were official suspects, alongside Todd's adoptive daughter Summer (Harriet Bibby). Summer has been charged with murder by DS Lisa Swain, despite a history of the detective locking up innocent people. Swain believed a brooch belonging to Summer found in Theo's flat was substantial evidence.

Hospital Dash

For Summer, who suffers from diabetes, things take a turn for the worse as she moves from prison to hospital. In upcoming scenes, Todd receives a call informing him that Summer has been admitted. When Summer admits she switched off her insulin pump and made herself ill because she cannot cope with life in prison, Todd is horrified. As he relays this to friends in the Rovers, it remains to be seen whether someone there can continue to mask their guilt.

Despite the charges, Harriet Bibby previously insisted that her alter-ego deserves to be a suspect. She said: "This is such a flip on its head. She's such an unexpected suspect in this, but it's also completely understandable why she's a suspect, and so she should be." Harriet also believed that within the story, it could easily have been Summer who ended up dead at Theo's hands. "I think there's a scenario where she might have felt like it was either her that was going to be hurt, or maybe even killed, or it was him," she added. "When people are pushed to that point, it's interesting to see what they will do to survive. It's no secret that Theo was very threatening, he even said that he was going to bury Summer if she got in his way, so there could have been a moment where she felt like it was either her or him."

Coronation Street airs Monday to Friday at 8:30pm on ITV1 and is available to stream from 7am on ITV X.
