Coronation Street Star Launches GoFundMe After Son's Death

Former Coronation Street star Debbie Rush has launched a GoFundMe campaign in memory of her late son William, who died at the age of 31 in December 2025. The actress, best known for playing Anna Windass on the ITV soap, was supported by fans and former co-stars as the fundraiser quickly surpassed £2,100 toward its £3,000 goal.

Son's Death and Tributes

William Rush, who appeared in Waterloo Road as Josh Stevenson, was found unconscious at his home by his partner and later died on December 17, 2025, at Salford Royal Hospital. An inquest into his death was opened shortly after. At the time, Debbie paid tribute to “our beautiful baby boy,” saying, “There are no words that can truly capture the depth of our loss.”

Fundraiser for Mental Health Charity

The GoFundMe page explains that the money raised will go toward organizing William Rush Sports Day, an annual event that will raise funds for Andy’s Man Club, a men’s suicide prevention charity that runs support groups across the UK. The page states: “William Rush was an amazing young man who sadly lost his life at the age of 31. He was always there to listen, offering kindness, understanding, and support to anyone who needed it.”

It adds: “William helped as many people as he possibly could, especially those struggling with their mental health. He was neurodiverse and, although only recently diagnosed, had faced challenges for much of his life with quiet strength. The legacy we want to create in William’s memory is one he would be proud of — continuing to help others, just as he always did.”

Sports Day Tradition

The fundraiser notes that William’s summer birthday was always celebrated with sports-related activities, a tradition the family wants to continue. “Every year, since he was a little boy, William’s summer birthday was celebrated with something sports-related, surrounded by family and friends. This was something he truly loved, and it feels right to continue that tradition in his name.”

The campaign emphasizes the importance of mental health awareness: “Through this event, we hope to bring people together, raise money, and celebrate William’s wonderful life. Most importantly, we want to share a message that truly matters: it’s okay to talk. No one should ever feel like they are alone, and reaching out to someone — a friend, family member, or even a stranger — can make all the difference.”

Debbie’s former co-stars, including Jack P Shepherd, have donated to the cause, which has raised over £2,100 as of early July 2026.
