Child among three arrested after car rammed police vehicle and set on fire

A car that was rammed into a police vehicle in Horwich was later found burnt out in an alleyway in Bolton, with two men and a 16-year-old child arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life.

Incident on Webb Street

Officers first attempted to stop a white Vauxhall Insignia on Webb Street in Horwich at around 1.15pm on Monday, September 21. The car was reversed into the police vehicle, causing 'significant damage', a spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said.

The car, which had the registration plate GJ12 AHK, then made off from the scene. At around 2.55pm, police found the same car burnt out in an alleyway between Arkwright Street and Siemens Street.

Fire spread to nearby house

The car fire had spread to a nearby house, causing more 'significant damage'. Two men, aged 32 and 23, have since been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life, police said. A 16-year-old child was also arrested for the same offence.

All three suspects have been bailed pending further enquiries. Police shared an appeal for information on the GMP Bolton Facebook page this morning (October 1).

Appeal for witnesses

"While arrests have been made, we are continuing to appeal for information, and for anyone who witnessed either the fire or the initial ramming incident", a force spokesperson said. "This includes anyone who has CCTV or dashcam footage – particularly from the Chorley New Road area between 1.15pm and 2.55pm."
