Four men have been arrested and charged in a series of raids across Glasgow and Lanarkshire as part of an operation into the violent scenes that followed Celtic's title win, bringing the total number of football fans arrested to 24.
Raids and arrests
Officers executed warrants at five properties on Wednesday, August 12, with support from the Greater Glasgow Division Violence Reduction Unit. Addresses in Springburn, Govanhill, Blantyre, and Bothwell were attended.
The men, aged 30, 30, 25, and 21, have been charged with offences including assault, culpable and reckless conduct, breach of the peace, and fireworks offences. The two 30-year-olds and the 21-year-old are due to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Thursday, August 13, while the 25-year-old will appear on Wednesday, August 26.
Background to the disorder
The operation relates to the chaotic scenes in Glasgow's Trongate area after Celtic's 3-1 victory over Hearts at Parkhead on May 16. Two police officers were seriously injured, and three members of the public required hospital treatment.
A total of 3,000 supporters moved to the city centre before missiles, including broken bottles, were launched at police while they dealt with a medical emergency. Riot police were deployed to break up the violence, and supporters were pictured with blood on their clothes. Piles of rubbish and broken glass were left across the city centre.
Ongoing inquiries
Superintendent Derrick Johnston said: "Today's operation is the result of extensive work over a number of weeks and we will continue to carry out inquiries. I hope this day of action makes it clear to those involved that we will not give up and you will be brought to justice."
He added: "Significant enquiries remain ongoing into this disorder which impacted communities, businesses, police officers and supporters. I would urge anyone with any information to contact us."
