Celtic fan admits belt attack on Rangers fan at Ibrox

A Celtic fan has admitted attacking a Rangers supporter with a belt in disorder that followed an Old Firm Scottish Cup tie at Ibrox in March. Kevin Prior, 44, of Clydebank, West Dunbartonshire, struck the unknown opposition fan twice with the belt.

The incident took place on March 8, 2026, after Rangers hosted Celtic in a Scottish Cup match that the visitors won on penalties. Glasgow Sheriff Court heard that supporters from both sides entered the pitch and carried out various acts of disorder following the game.

Attack in the stands

Prior was in the Broomloan Road Stand with the Celtic support, where he was seen throwing a number of objects at Rangers fans. He also shouted, repeatedly made gestures, and challenged Rangers supporters to a fight.

Prosecutor Abbas Ali said: "He was still in the stands but had moved towards the front and then struck an opposition supporter with his belt twice."

Victim's movements

The Rangers fan who was assaulted had left the home section of the stadium and made his way to the away stand, where he was engaged in an altercation with other Celtic fans at the time of the attack.

After the incident, CCTV was reviewed and images were released on social media. Prior was later identified and arrested.

Court outcome

Prior pleaded guilty to breach of the peace and assaulting the unknown man. Sentence was deferred pending background reports until next month by Sheriff Louise Arrol KC.
