Carl Cooper Charged with Murder of Shane Cullen in Ashton Bar Attack

Carl Cooper, 36, of Smallshaw Lane, Ashton-under-Lyne, has been charged with murder following the death of Shane Cullen, a 31-year-old father, after an incident at a karaoke bar in Tameside.

Incident at Blues Cabaret and Karaoke Bar

The altercation occurred at Blues Cabaret and Karaoke Bar on Bow Street in Ashton-under-Lyne at approximately 2:40 am on Saturday, July 11, 2026. Emergency services attended the scene, but Mr. Cullen was pronounced dead at the location.

Cooper has also been charged with assault and two counts of common assault. He has been remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear at Tameside Magistrates' Court on July 14.

Family Pays Tribute to 'Gentle Giant'

Following his death, Mr. Cullen's family described him as a 'great dad' to his young daughter. They called him a 'gentle giant' who 'had a smile to light up a room,' according to a statement released through police.

Bar Closes Voluntarily

The owners of the karaoke bar announced they had voluntarily decided to close the venue until further notice. In a Facebook post, the bar, formerly known as Olivers Bar, acknowledged the incident 'with great sadness.'
