A car was driven into the front of an Italian restaurant in Westhoughton on Thursday afternoon, with the manager saying it was 'very, very lucky' no one was hurt.
A red Citroen C4 Picasso ploughed into the Capri Italian restaurant on Market Street on September 24. Greater Manchester Police said it was called to a collision involving one vehicle at 4pm. A force spokesperson added: "There were no reports of injuries and no arrests were made."
Manager: 'If it had hit anybody they would probably be dead'
Blerim Hyseni, manager at Capri, told the Manchester Evening News it was 'very, very lucky' that no one was hurt. The restaurant was closed at the time of the collision, with no staff working during the gap between lunchtime and evening service hours.
Schoolchildren usually use the bus stop immediately outside the restaurant to get home, but Hyseni said the bus had fortunately left a few minutes earlier. "If it had hit anybody they would probably be dead," he said. "Even after it hit the restaurant, the car kept going."
CCTV footage passed to police
Footage showing the aftermath of the scene, seen by the M.E.N., showed a crowd of people surrounding the car following the crash. Hyseni said CCTV footage had been passed on to Greater Manchester Police.
