Several people were injured after a car drove into pedestrians at a festival in the Mexican city of Zacatlán on Wednesday, August 12. Footage captured the moment a blue sedan sped into a corridor where pedestrians were walking, causing terrified screams as people scattered. The car was stopped when it slammed into what appears to be a concrete pillar.
Incident at the Great Apple Fair
The car burst in from the Hotel Zacatlán area until crashing to one side of the Apple Pavilion. The driver was arrested, and several people attending the Gran Feria de la Manzana (Great Apple Fair) were injured, according to reports from a local news outlet. Red Cross paramedics are on the scene.
Mayor's response
Mayor of Zacatlán, Bety Sánchez, wrote in a post on X that "several people" had been struck. "We immediately activated the emergency response protocols," she said, adding that the vehicle is in custody and the driver has been detained.
"He appears to have some health issue that may have been the cause that triggered this incident, but acting responsibly and in accordance with regulations, we need the necessary expert examinations to be conducted to confirm or rule out this version," the mayor said. The Zacatlán City Council has said there are no fatalities.
