Two young brothers who tragically lost their lives in a car crash on the A30 in Cornwall during the half-term break have been identified as Tobias and Finley Rice, aged eight and five.
Details of the Incident
The devastating collision occurred on May 29 on the westbound carriageway near Connor Downs. Emergency services arrived shortly before 11am. Tobias died at the scene, while Finley passed away in hospital three days later on June 2.
School Community in Mourning
The boys were pupils at Priory CE Primary School in Christchurch, Dorset. Headteacher Simon Croutear expressed profound grief, stating: "Our whole school community has been shocked and grieved by the tragic loss of Tobias and Finley. They were cherished members of our school family and will be immensely missed." He added that the school is supporting the family in every way possible. The brothers' names were released with family permission.
Other Injuries and Investigation
A woman in her 70s sustained serious injuries and was treated at Derriford Hospital in Plymouth. Another woman in her 40s was also treated and later discharged. Both women and the two children were travelling in the same vehicle. Police confirmed that relatives are being supported by specially trained officers.
A local man in his 60s was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He received treatment for minor injuries and has been released under investigation while enquiries continue.
