A 27-year-old British man was discovered dead in the swimming pool of a holiday rental property in Vilamoura, Algarve, in the early hours of this morning. The man, who has not yet been named, was staying at the house with friends.
Circumstances of the Discovery
According to local reports, the tourist was found lifeless in the pool around 2 a.m. local time. Emergency services were called, but the man could not be revived. The property, a private villa, had been rented by the group for a holiday on the popular Algarve coast.
Police Investigation
The GNR (Guarda Nacional Republicana) police force initially responded to the scene before handing the case over to the Polícia Judiciária, the Portuguese criminal investigation police. Authorities have interviewed the victim's friends who were staying at the villa. Police believe the death was accidental and have stated that there is no evidence pointing to a crime at this stage.
