A 28-year-old British man died in a tragic accident while traveling in Thailand, an inquest has revealed. Liam Anelay, from Liverpool, had been exploring the country for about three weeks when he was involved in a fatal road traffic collision on January 28, 2026.

The Incident in Phuket

The inquest at Gerard Majella Courthouse in Liverpool heard that Mr. Anelay was riding a moped to meet friends in Phuket when a parked car made a U-turn. The court was told the driver likely did not see Liam approaching. After the collision, the driver stopped and remained at the scene, cradling Liam until emergency services arrived.

Mr. Anelay was taken to Chalong Hospital but was pronounced dead that afternoon. He suffered multiple fractures, including injuries to his skull, ribs, and legs. The cause of death was multiple injuries sustained in a road traffic collision.

Coroner's Statement

Area Coroner Helen Rimmer told the hearing: 'Liam died on January 28, 2026, in Thailand. Liam was traveling on a moped in Thailand when he was hit by a car that was completing a U-turn. The driver of the car remained with Liam until emergency services arrived.' She added that Liam suffered multiple injuries as a result of the collision.

The coroner concluded that Liam's death was the result of a road traffic collision. Offering sympathies to his loved ones, Ms. Rimmer said: 'I would be grateful if my condolences could be forwarded to all of Liam's family after the tragic accident that led to his death.'

Tributes from Family

At the time of his death, Liam lived near Liverpool city center and worked as a production line operator. His mother, Christina, paid an emotional tribute on social media, writing: 'How the hell can this even be possible... my baby boy, my heart is so badly shattered into a million pieces... My life will never be the same ever... Please keep shining down on me until we meet again.'

Liam's cousin, Jason Ding, also shared a tribute: 'R.I.P little Liam, I will always remember your cheeky smile as a kid, all the way to you becoming a gentleman. You're a credit to the whole family... Fly high my little curious cousin.'
