Brit extradited from Portugal charged with Manchester teen murder

A 24-year-old man has been extradited to the UK from Portugal and charged with murder in connection with the death of a teenager almost six years ago.

John Soyoye, 16, died after being stabbed in the Moston area of Manchester on November 5, 2020. Nico de Carvalho Wilson was detained in Portugal in March and flown back to the UK on Tuesday, Greater Manchester Police said.

Charges and Court Appearances

Wilson has been charged with murder, manslaughter and violent disorder in connection with John's death, the force said. Wilson appeared at Manchester Magistrates' Court on Wednesday and is due to appear at Manchester Crown Court on Friday.

Previous Convictions

It comes after four members of an organised crime group were jailed in August following their extradition to the UK for their involvement in John's killing. In 2022, eight other men were handed prison sentences for their roles in the teenager's death.

Family Tribute

In a tribute to John shortly after his death, his family said: "He was a remarkable man that was full of energy, intelligence and love. His energy was felt by everyone that met him. He was smart, caring and friendly and he will be missed but remembered."
